Miele uses F-numbers across its whole range, and the number identifies the subsystem rather than the appliance — the same F-code can appear on a dishwasher and a washing machine meaning the same class of fault. Note the appliance as well as the number.

What to do right now

1
Write the code down exactly
Including any letters and the dashes. Variants of the same family can point at different parts.
2
Do not clear it yet
Cycling the power wipes the display without fixing anything, and you lose the one piece of evidence we have.
3
Note how fast it returns
Minutes, hours or days. That timing separates a failing part from an intermittent connection.

What the fix is likely to cost

A code narrows the diagnosis; it does not price it. The same family can be a cheap sensor or an expensive control board, which is why we quote after seeing it rather than over the phone.

Why sealed-system codes surface early near the coast

Miele refrigeration reports sealed-system and cooling faults through its own family of codes, and those are the codes the coast bears on. Within about three miles of the water — Huntington Beach, Newport, Laguna, Dana Point, San Clemente and the rest of the 12 coastal cities we cover — airborne salt settles on the condenser and attacks the joint where aluminium fins meet copper tubing. A coil that has lost surface area rejects less heat, the system runs longer to hold temperature, and the control eventually reports it. That code is real, but the coil is the cause and recharging the system does not address it. We check coil condition on coastal calls before reading anything into a sealed-system code.

Why fill, drain and heating codes are worth a second look here

Orange County supply runs roughly 10 to 19 grains per gallon depending on the address, and 6 of the cities we cover sit at the hard end of that range. On washers and dishwashers that matters specifically for the codes reporting fill rate, drain rate and water heating: scale narrows inlet screens and coats heating elements, so the machine misses a timing threshold the control is watching and posts a fault. The part is often sound. We rule scale out before condemning a valve, a pump or an element on a Miele machine here.

What Miele codes have in common

A specific failed component rather than the whole unit
Most single-symptom issues trace back to one part, not a systemic failure.
Wear on parts that see the most daily use
Moving parts and seals typically fail before electronic or structural components.
A control or sensor fault
Electronics can produce symptoms that look mechanical at first glance.
Before you call
  1. Note exactly when the issue started and whether anything changed beforehand
  2. Try a full power cycle at the breaker before calling

Clearing a code at the breaker wipes the display without touching what set it off. If it comes back, note how quickly — that is diagnostic information worth having.
